disney infinity cancelled

For Disney Infinity fans who are still in shock over the recent announcement that Disney Infinity will be canceled, you may have been wondering what the plans were for Disney Infinity’s future. Well, wonder no more – Patrick Klepek over at Kotaku was able to get a hint at some of these epic plans from anonymous sources over at DI and they are wonderful.

In this article, we’re going to give you a brief but mesmerizing walkthrough of what was to come of Disney Infinity over the course of 2016 and 2017.

Rogue One Play Set

In the months following the release of both Alice in Wonderland (May) & Finding Dory (June) which FYI are still being released, we were going to see a variety of different level packs including one for the Star Wars Rogue One movie which would of no doubt been released at a similar time as the movie, so December 2016.

This was being developed by Ninja Theory and I can’t help but feel awful for the people over at NT who forcefully have to put their pens, paper, tablets and what other tools they may use down and step away from this project.

Hint: we said numerous, so there were also plans for multiple other level packs.

Developers were planning numerous new level packs, including one based on this fall’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie

Moana Play Set

As well as Rogue One, Studio Gobo was working on a Moana Play Set (if you don’t know what/who Moana is then checking this out).

12″ Figures!

I would have loved to see how these turned out, hopefully, someone will leak or just officially show us the photos, development and perhaps a video of what these figures would have looked like.

This new line of figures would have included some of the best selling figures such as Buzz Lightyear, Darth Vader, Elsa, Hulk, Hulkbuster, Jack Skellington and more. They would have retailed for $45 and would have included additional features in the game as well as psychically lighting up!

In 2017, we would have seen…

Basically, everything we wanted…

Toy Box Story Mode

Finally, there would have been some depth to the Toy Box that existed without the need of building it yourself. You would have been able to play your favorite characters in world’s unbeknown to them.

New Play Sets for…

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Honestly, I was most excited about this (and Pirates of the Caribbean) as I had SO much fun playing the Guardians of the Galaxy Play Set and of course the movie is awesome, the characters are awesome so it would have just been, uh AWESOME.

Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Men Tell No Tales

One of my favorite Disney franchises, this would have been fantastic of course.

Thor Ragnarok

Again, would have been epic obviously.

As well as Play Sets for….

  • Coco
  • Cars 3
  • Star Wars VIII

So, let’s just say it would have been a jam-packed year full of incredible content.

Honestly, after reading the article from Kotaku and now writing this, I am depressed ha.

This makes me so sad and upset. 🙁 I was looking forward to adding to my collection. And being able to play all the new playsets with my son.

I am really upset over this. If I knew that no more games or figures were coming out after finding dory I would of never bought this system for my kids. I feel that we are all getting let down and all Disney cares about is money. Not family enjoyment just capital greed. SHAME ON YOU! Keep going like this and you will lose more than you ever could of hoped to make. You have let families down and this is an outrage! Thanks for no notice and breaking my kids hearts!!!

Well, it’s undortunately how the gaming industry works these days, I really agree with you, that it should be the other way around.

This is the game that got me back into gaming. Super bummed about this news. I nanny for an awesome lady who works at Disney Interactive and she gave me a tour. Some of her co-workers to whom she told about me gave me some free figures upon meeting me. They really care about making people happy over there. Now the whole second floor is out of a job, which makes me pretty sad too.

I wonder if a petition was going if they would reconsider shutting this down or at least a third party continue it using the licensing. Playmation isn’t being shut down because it is not owned by Disney but a third party licenses the Disney products. Any thoughts on getting a petition going to see if we can persuade Disney to change their minds.

While I love Disney Infinity, I feel they really brought the end on themselves. Instead of improving upon a base system and wrapping the new content around it like Blizzard does with Diablo 2 and 3, you had to use a new disc with every version of it. The old playsets could have been retrofitted with the new gaming engine as it was developed. Instead they opted to lock out the old playsets in the newer versions and only allowing them to unlock toys in the toy box. This was poor design especially when most systems have hard drives in them and the could have installed them onto the HD. The second reason for them viewing this as a failure is the overall cost of it especially from a parent’s point of view when there are so many games that their kids might be asking them to buy. Consider the cost of Skylanders, Playmation, Amiibo, and Lego Dimensions. If your the type o parent who buys all this for their kids, it can get pretty expensive quickly. Then Disney added insult to injury by the King Mickey Power Disc. On the heels of John Vignocchi condemning Nintendo for creating a false demand by not producing enough figures, they only created 5,000 King Mickey discs which pretty much ended up on eBay by people trying to take advantage of those who play the game. Kind of hypocritical of JV to throw blame at Nintendo and not look at what they did to their fans. To top all this off, they never offered a base or multiplayer for the PC version of the game. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. There were plenty of players on the PC version that would have bought figures and power discs which would have added to their bottom line. Disney had the best-selling game and poorly managed on how to effectively market it to what it could have been. Considering all of this, I will always hold onto everything I bought for it and I will hopefully be able to finish the collection before they are gone. Disney if you are listening, you should reconsider this because it was the best game out there and you have upset many fans. The adults that played it will probably get along fine, but all those disappointed kids are on your shoulders.

Considering that Electronic Arts owns the rights for new Star Wars games, I’m according to sell the Disney Infinity license to EA (or to Ubisoft, what owned post-2000s Disney games) and the game’s toys manufacturing to Hasbro as expected. In this way, Disney couldn’t shut down the Disney Infinity series and could continue to release it through other game industries instead of Disney Interactive and Avalanche Software. Talking about the playsets, I think that’s not a bad idea the releasing of the Rogue One, Moana, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, Cars 3 and Coco playsets, to get continue the life of the series. Also I think that’s a good idea add more playsets from other Marvel characters like them from the “Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.” TV series, the Quicksilver and Scarlett figures and the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters (if one day Disney acquires the rights from 20th Century Fox), other Lucasfilm characters like Indiana Jones, and other Disney characters like, for take example, Goofy, Darkwing Duck, Robin Hood, Remy, Peter Pan (what was previously annonced for release in Disney Infinity 3.0 on August 2016 before its cancellation) or Simba. Also the Descendants playset with Mal, Carlos, Jay and Evie isn’t bad for Disney Infinity. I’m very disappointing that Disney would shut down the Disney Infinity series only for Avalanche’s closure, instead of find solutions for take the series yet alive. What a fuck. 🙁

Not to mention the fact that we were supposed to be getting Peter Pan. My all time favorite Disney movie and story.

aww I wanted Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver SO MUCH!!! Such a shame….and then there was Thor Ragnarok, Peter Pan, and possibly possibly the Genie….sigh :-((( Anyway, everyone spread the word and sign the petition on change.org in our hopeful attempt to save Disney Infinity!! https://www.change.org/p/the-walt-disney-company-save-disney-infinity

Will the kids still be able to play their games? I just bought 2 systems for two of my grandchildren…

Why tell us what “would have happened” if they hadn’t canceled it. Kind of a moot point now, right? It’s too bad they canceled it. This is one the favorate games that my young boys and I play 🙁
